SMITHS

Rachael is a co-founder of SMITHS, a sophisticated, optimistic and agile new studio that makes artful, memorable spaces. With 40 years combined experience SMITHS continue to create useful, versatile and repairable buildings that showcase the process of making while retaining the practicality of purpose.

Rachael was a former Director at HUT Architecture, focusing on the transformation of buildings, places and spaces, located within tight urban sites hosting a divergence of uses. Rachael’s background also includes international work in New York, the Commission of Architecture and the Built Environment and the RIBA Small Practice Advisory Group.

Rachael’s drive is to create space for anyone in architecture who is usually faced with barriers entering or remaining within it. She is a Steering Group Committee Member of Women in Architecture, a RIBA mentor and most recently part time Programme Director of the Build The Way, an architectural traineeship programme aimed at young people.
