She is a member of the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD), the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) and the International Commission on Illumination (CIE), and has served as Coordinator of the Light Collaboration Network for Research and Education (LCN).
Solveig Busler
Lighting & LED specialist | Color mixing & dimming expert | Pixel enthusiast | Lecturer & Speaker
Dimming 65,535 steps per color and mixing vivid, vibrant colors — with precision, passion, and a soft spot for pink.
For more than 25 years, Solveig has worked with light on stage, on camera, and in buildings — environments where light has to perform reliably, whether for a single live moment or for decades.
She began her career in Berlin as a trained event technician, freelancing on live productions before moving into technical direction. There, she led lighting and media technology for national and international productions and shows — experience that taught her what really holds up under a live audience, technical pressure, and a hard deadline.
Since 2016, Solveig has brought that hands-on perspective to Schnick-Schnack-Systems, a German LED manufacturer based in Cologne, where she is now part of the management team.
Working at the intersection of technology, design, and application, she collaborates with TV studios, theaters, system integrators, lighting designers, and architects around the world. Her focus is on turning creative ideas into LED solutions that deliver the right color, the right dimming behavior, and the right effect — from a single pixel to a full architectural installation.
Sofia Alexiadou
Sofia Alexiadou is an international lighting designer and educator working across theatre, opera, dance and music theatre. Originally from Greece, she has worked on 200+ productions across Europe, including projects at major opera houses and historic venues such as the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus and Odeon of Herodes Atticus.
She began her professional lighting career as an assistant to Greek lighting designer Lefteris Pavlopoulos and has since developed an extensive career spanning design, teaching and research.
Sofia is currently Programme Director for the BA (Hons) Creative Lighting Control and MA Light in Performance at Rose Bruford College, where she teaches lighting design and creative lighting control. She has also taught at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts and Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
She holds postgraduate degrees in Theatre Studies and Leadership in Higher Education and is a PhD candidate at the University of Athens.
Her research interests include lighting dramaturgy, emerging technologies, augmented and virtual reality, and practice-based research. She has also held leadership roles within professional lighting organisations, contributing to industry awards and educational initiatives.
Her teaching combines professional practice, research and experimentation, encouraging students to challenge conventions, take creative risks and develop innovative approaches to lighting design.
Saskia Wheeler
Saskia Wheeler is a design strategist and neuroaesthetics researcher exploring the relationship between neuroscience, art, design and human experience. Her work examines how our senses, environments, and aesthetic experiences influence the brain, body, emotions, and wellbeing.
Working across research, design and creative practice, Saskia translates neuroscience into practical insights for spaces, experiences, brands, and creative projects. Her work includes sensory research, experience design, workshops, and research using methods including surveys, interviews, implicit measures, and EEG.
Saskia is also part of EDGE – Blurring the Borders between Neuroscience and Art, an international community exploring the intersections between art, neuroscience and human experience. She has spoken and presented her work at events and organisations including Imperial College London, Berlin Science Week and Fotografiska.

Peter Earle
With a career spanning music, technology startups, and global lighting brands, Peter Earle FSLL has spent decades exploring how light shapes human experience. After founding and selling an innovative LED lighting company, he went on to work with some of the world’s most influential lighting organisations, deepening both his expertise and his conviction that light has the power to transform environments and wellbeing. Today, Peter works independently with leading global brands and ambitious technology startups, guiding them through pivotal moments of growth and innovation. He is drawn to organisations with bold ideas and the courage to rethink what lighting can be. His philosophy is simple yet profound: DO NO HARM. In practice, this principle becomes a catalyst for designing lighting solutions that consistently DO BETTER—enhancing wellbeing, performance, and the spaces we inhabit. Peter’s work champions the concept of light recipes—the intentional delivery of visual and non-visual spectral ingredients carried by photons—to benefit humans and all living creatures. He envisions a future where lighting is recognised not as a cost to be minimised, but as an investment in human potential: an asset capable of enriching lives, supporting health, and enhancing how people work, learn, heal, and thrive. A published author, respected industry contributor, and experienced speaker, Peter is an elected Fellow of The Society of Light and Lighting and a Freeman of The Worshipful Company of Lightmongers. When not shaping the future of light, Peter composes and performs music, collects guitars and audio equipment, runs an art lifestyle business, and finds inspiration in wild swimming, travel, boating, and yachting
Paul Beale
Paul Beale is the Founding Director of 18 Degrees, an architectural lighting design consultancy based in London.
He began his career in lighting design at Arup in 1996, founded Electrolight in Australia in 2004 and established 18 Degrees upon returning to the UK in 2014.
Paul also leads 18 Circular, an initiative that treats Cat A luminaires as leased assets rather than consumables. Through this model, luminaires are recovered and recertified for redeployment across multiple buildings. The approach has been independently validated as achieving embodied carbon reductions of up to 89% compared with conventional Cat A lighting.
